First reactions to PES 2010 demo
Posted by William | Filed under News, Opinion
I’ve just downloaded the PES 2010 demo for the Xbox 360, and here are my first thoughts and observations on this year’s version:
- The game has licenced music! When you load the demo, copyright notices come up for the featured artists contained within the demo: The Chemical Brothers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Telephones, and Delphic. Something PES has been missing for years!
- The presentation is fantastic; slick, responsive, attractive.
- Although you can only select ‘Exhibition’ on the main menu, there is a ‘Community’ section which is greyed out in the demo.
- The demo can be played with up to four players
- The graphics are great, very solid and detailed. Players stand and move like their real life counterparts… Check out the classic Gerrald stance.
- No commentary on the demo
- Penalties are now taken from a side-on camera, and you get a brief tutorial screen for how to take and save penalties - you are now told to use the dpad for direction. The keeper feels much more responsive for penalties.
- You can move the keeper a couple of sidesteps left and right along the goal line at a penalty.
- Attacking player runs are much improved, you can really watch them striding alongside and infront of you for the ball. INCREDIBLE IMPROVEMENT
- The pause menu sounds are much more subtle and quieter than previous versions, this is a great change imo.
- The 360-direction movement feels nice. I was worried it would take some getting used to, but it just makes movement feel smoother and less on rails.
- When taking a corner, the camera is in the same place as usual (behind the player taking the corner), but the camera now moves to the penalty box a lot quicker and smoother than before. Nice touch.
- Player animations when receiving and passing the ball are much improved.
- I cannot remember if this was in PES 2009, but their are now linesmen who run along the lines alongside your players.
- The crowd interaction is much better. The crowd now cheers and claps when you make a vital tackle in your own half, and excitement builds audibly when you’re in the oppositions box.
- The ball physics seem more real than ever.
- The is no movie or adverts after you play a match, so you can keep playing demo games over and over.

PES 2010: Six major improvements to Master League mode
Posted by William | Filed under News, Opinion
Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is definitely looking to be the best in the series yet in terms of presentation, graphics, and game modes. For me, a lot of of PES fans, Master League is the definitive mode since it offers a at least 40+ hours plus of exciting gameplay per ML team, and if Konami can improve ML alone, then PES 2010 is always going to be worth buying.
So what improvements in Master League mode are we going to see in PES 2010 later this year? All the details below are confirmed and announced by Konami.

What would you like to see improved in PES 2010?
Posted by William | Filed under Opinion
PES 2009 was overall quite a success for the fans of series. The gameplay since 2008 was improved, the graphics were sharp, and the game contained some new game modes. However, PES 2009 was not the perfection that every PES fan wants.
Below are things we at Proevonew.co.uk would like to see in PES 2010 - please write what you would like see.
Once we get a good list together, Proevonews.co.uk will send the list off to our contacts in Konami, and post the response back here.
Improvements for PES 2010:
- Up-to-date team rosters and line-up. Club rosters should not be finalised until the end the summer transfer deadline day.
- If the Champions League licence is in PES 2010, have it incorporated within the Master League mode.
- Single play mode for ‘Become a Legend’ - ie exhibition matches where you can control one player. Also the ability to play these matches online.
- A refined Master League transfer process. The transfer process in PES 2009 was slightly illogical at times, you could be an ‘S’ rated club, offer the maximum money and wages to a player who wanted to leave their club, but still not get him…
- ‘Speed Up’ mode. In PES 2006/2007 the game had a ‘double speed’ option which would speed up the gameplay and game clock in matches. This was useful for switching on when in ‘Coach mode’ to speed up any matches you were not to bothered in watching.
- More realistic currency values in Master League.
- Licenced, better music.
Frustrations with PES 2009
Posted by William | Filed under Opinion
We’ve been loving playing PES 2009 since the launch, and are still loving the game as it seems to get better with each play. But we do have a few frustrations with the game…
- The lack of updated team rosters on launch - When you get PES 2009 out of the box, you will see that Berbatov is still at Spurs, Robhino is still at Real Madrid, Saha is not at Everton etc. The list is massive, and it’s very frustrating looking up the transfers that happened over the summer and manually inputting them. There are updated option files for PS3 and PC available, but not for Xbox users.
- The team select menus are slow - When it comes to editing players from different teams in Edit mode, the vertical sliding menus for choosing a team are very slow to navigate. So if you are trying to access Wigan from the English Premier League menu, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom. The PES 2008 menus previewed the teams in a 5×5 grid which meant you could access each club with little time.
- The music has improved, but is still poor - Thank you Konami for improving on last year’s awful music, but this year’s play-list is not much better and a lot of players are just switching it off.
- The default kits are rubbish - Just go checkout Newcastle - is it me or do Newcastle play in white and black stripes rather than a solid black shirt? Poor effort Konami.
- The cursor select has only three settings - Throughout the years in PES you have been able to adjust quite precisely how much cpu input you wanted for changing the player cursor. Now you only have three basic settings which is quite infuriating for some people.
- The ball phyics can be a little pinball at times - Overall the ball physics have improved, but the ball seems to bounce around very heavily in short spaces which just looks and sounds unrealistic. For example if you hit the post and it hits a player on the rebound, which the the goalie saves etc.
- The goalies animations dictate their saves - The player animations in PES 2009 have improved greatly, but you will notice that the goalies are not making saves that they should on one-on-one situations as the pre-set animation does not allow for the goalie to realistically stretch out and save the ball.
Let us know about your frustrations with the game.
Things we’d like to see PES 2009

Pes 2008 was great, but as expected there were a few frustrations here and there, and here is a list of things we’d like to see to make a near-perfect game.
- A graphic editor for use in the kits and player editor.
- Customisable tournaments so you can make your own cups, leagues, and mini-leagues.
- A referee who doesn’t have stronger contact detection than the players, meaning the ref won’t accidently foul your players and get away with it.
- A revised engine for deciding which slide tackles are fouls are which are not. One of the best thing in PES is the satisfying, but it is frustrating when you perform a perfectly good legal tackle and you get a card for it.
- A different view for taking penalties and free kicks.
- More control when taking throw ins, and for your players to be able to come up close to the person taking the throw in.
- A replay editor which doesn’t need to load the game engine everytime you which to view a replay.
- Commentary which actually recognises when you hit the post or bar.
- More interaction from the pitch-side manager and coaching team.
- More Master League interaction with the fan’s moral, feelings, chants etc.
