How to build strength & attributes in PES 2009 Become a Legend mode
Posted by William | Filed under Tips
We’ve been playing the Become a Legend mode since Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 came out, and here are our top tips to getting the most out of every match.
- Adjust your strengths according to your position - You need to adjust your strengths to match the attributes needed by the position of your player. So if you are playing as a winger then you will need to focus on speed, dribbling, and kicking. If you are playing as a centre midfielder you will need to focus on balance, kicking, and power. If you are playing as an attacker you will need to have good kicking, speed, and balance strengths. Defending positions will generally need stamina, power, and balance, however if you are playing as a wing-back you may need a little speed in your strength.
If you need a little help, just think of the top players in real life football who play in your position, and identify their top three to four strengths and adjust your strength blocks to those.
- Stay in your designated area - You need to stay in your designated area in order to pick up good ratings, it is no good if you are a striker who plays too deep in defence, or playing as a center midfielder who spends most of the time on the right wing in the final third of the pitch! If you check your rating>details after each match, you will see where you are spending most of your time on the pitch.
- Pass, pass, pass! - Football is a team game and you will be rewarded a good rating if you make a lot of passes, just make sure they reach the player you are passing too or this could damage your rating.
- Avoid fouls - Playing a game of PES with just one player means you have the danger of making many fouls with the same player, and for every time you get booked three times you will receive a ban, not good for getting into the first team, or keeping a place in the team. Committing fouls also brings down your post-match rating.
- Be the heart of the team - If you play each and every game enthusiastically like it’s a final, making every touch count, closing down every attack then you will be rewarded by getting a good rating. Make every move you do count!
- Shoot on target - At the beginning of your career it is very hard to shoot and score, but the key to remember is that it’s important to shoot on target even if it’s not likely to go in. There is no point making wild or fancy shots when you have poor stats as they will just miss, damaging your post-match rating. Just get each and every shot on goal and you never know, you may get lucky and score a few.
- Play longer matches - If you are in the first team and are playing a tough team, then consider making the match length for 10minutes or over minimum. The longer the match lasts in real time, then the more chances you will get to build your attacks, or calm your defence, meaning you are more likely to get a better result for your player and you team.
Let us know of what tactics you use to build your Become a Legend’s player’s attributes!

November 28th, 2008 at 10:16 amDoes anyone know if you can actually find your legends own rating. I can see to be an international you need a rating around 6.6 and upwards. I have looked everywhere but cannot see my rating, so I have no idea if I am getting close to national standard or not.
Any pointers on this would be great.

You can just compare yourself with best football players to find out how you can improve your real or no real abilities in football.First you shuold know any positions in the pitch. Each player in the pitch has a different duty. You should find your duties and improve yourself naturally. If you want to be a pro in one or two factors, you shuold focus on what you want more than the others;(Like speed or kicking, etc).
It is the general hint you can use in your life or your game. But don’t forget,”LIFE IS A GAME.TRY TO BE A PRO PLAYER.” -

December 13th, 2008 at 11:40 amFunny- I’m playing 5 min halfs, and I’m scoring 5-10 goals per game, and my team (Valladolid) have won 29 straight since I got here.
My stats
28 matches, 151 goals, 2 assists, 26 MVPs, 9.2 average rating.
My main tip would be ot make yourself available for the easy pass, as anyone can dribble past their defence once you have the ball. Make yourself an obvious target for your team. -

December 16th, 2008 at 10:00 amAs I played Become a Legend so far, I noticed that the easiest way to get a good rating is to score goals. Doesn´t matter so much your performance for the rest of the match, so keep in mind that, if you score and your team ends up as winner, probably you´ll be rated as the “most valuable player” in that occasion.
Having this in mind, I went for a CF position with some points in Balance, Dribbling Speed, Shoot Accuracy and Weak Foot Accuracy. Personally I think Balance as the most important one. It´s annoying to see your player falling at aech contact with other players. -

December 16th, 2008 at 5:49 pmAwrite lads,
I’ve just started playing it again for the first time in over a month (had exams which finished today - woohoo!) Played every ISS and Pro Ev there’s been and to be honest 2009 is phenomenal.
My tips for BaL are quite simple, when you’re starting out put all your strength blocks into two stats, speed is crucial at the start as there’s no point being able to tackle, header, shoot or do anything at all if you always get beaten to the ball or closed down too quicky. So I’d say full strength on speed til you’re high 70s then you can maybe drop it down to 4 blocks.
The others I changed about a bit but always kept at least 4 blocks to whatever I was training. If you’re a CM, like me, I’d recommend you get your stamina up to atleast 90, I’ve been at 93 since I was 21. I’m 23 now and last season won the golden boot for the Premiership with Spurs, golden boot for the league cup, made European Team of the Year and World Team of the Year.
My tactics on the pitch are quite simple, I’ve got 93 stamina so I can sprint a hell of a lot, don’t chase the ball too much but make sure you’re putting pressure on the man with the ball or marking a likely pass so you can intercept it. If one of your defenders (usually your full backs) are caught out of position then try to cover for them.
Make a lot of runs forward calling for passes but don’t try to skin every player you meet. The best thing about 2009’s gameplay is that it is very realistic, even Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka don’t try to take on every player. If you’re under pressure make a simple pass and then make a run. Rack up lots of simple passes and don’t forget that chip-through-ball works a charm in 2009 if you see the run being made - CM seem to have a better long pass than short.
If you’re shooting isn’t all that good then you really need to think about your body stance before you shoot. If you are facing at an angle away from the goal you’ll almost never score unless you have really good shooting. Don’t try to smack it, about half a second will give you a decent strike if your body is set right. If you get in close remember your guy will sometimes take a second or so to get the shot off, especially if your response is low, and the keeper can rush out and take the ball from you as you watch your power bar waiting for your guy to strike it. Try to make the keeper go the other way i.e. a wee turn in the box never hurts unless a defender is all over your back. If you are turning try double tapping R2 as you do it for closer ball control.
Patience is the best attitude to take when starting out. I’ve spent a total of 4.5 seasons at Spurs having started with Villa and then Blackburn for half a season each. A wee half season loan spell at Portsmouth broke up my time at Spurs before I signed for Man U (having scored 14 goals in the first half of the season at Spurs). I’ll come on to my time at Man U in a second. After half a season at Man U I signed for Lyon and am just over half way through my first season with them.
I have found one flaw in choosing which team to go to. I got an offer from Man U and thought, brilliant, I’m made. Except that, despite the money they gave me, they weren’t doing all that well. They were 4th in the league and not too far off and I looked at the names on their team page (if someone knows how to look at the stats of players in anoter team let me know!!!) and didn’t really see anyone I recognised. But I though, “Hey it’s Man U they must be good players)…Our keeper had 82 keeper skills, central defenders both had 79 for defence. So many goals were conceded during my time there that my contribution of 8 in the league didn’t get us above 5th. Ironically, Spurs won the league. My point is that just because you think they’re a big team doesn’t mean they still have good players and since you have no way of looking at player stats outwith your team I suggest you spend a fair bit of time looking at their recent match records and don’t always go by the team rankings.
Anyway, that’s enough rambling on. Back to BaL.

December 20th, 2008 at 11:51 amLiwaa,
The rating is important because it helps you to play for a bigger club, i suggest start off with regular mode and then once your haapy with your players stats then you can advance it to professional and top player.
I think more points you get the quicker your stats becomes better as a player.
Once you have chosen your position, you cant really change position, one think i notice if you play as a CF, you can play as AMF or CMF depending on which team you play for most of the time its a mid table teams who ask you to play at specific positions.
i hope that helps.
I am playing as CF for tottenham, and hoping Liverpool come by but they have torres and Vila up front.

December 20th, 2008 at 11:56 ambrendan, its takes time for your player to have a a pretty good stats, if you cant be bothered to player for several season before your player comes good, i suggest to skip through half the season and then wait up till 2014. another thing on your players strength put 5 bars speed and 4 bar Power, and 3 bar kicking till season 2013.

van Gooder Says:
January 4th, 2009 at 8:27 pmHi folks.
I came on here for some hints and tips around improving strengths etc. Not very helpful i must add. I too started at Wigan, then Newcastle, Arsenal and now Man Utd. Waiting for Barcelona or Real Madrid to come along. 22 at the min, just won European and World Player of the year. Score on average 70 goals in all competitions a season. Nothing special compared to the guy who scored over 150…..but i notice my team doesnt win when im not there. In all fairness though, i miss about ten chances each game so i guess its possible to score loads in a season. Like what most people have said, concentrate on your position. Speed is key and so is shooting and dribbling. Split the attribute points between these three areas. Stamina is important as well if your going to be run yourself ragged. You do pick up match experience points but you just dont notice it. What i desire is a simple guide as to how to score during a one on one situation - where your running straight down the midde of the pitch!
Think i will leave Utd at the end of the season in search of another league - sick of hammering Chelsea and Man City.
PS Are you all as sad as me and edited the team names to the real ones? lol
-
van Gooder Says:
January 4th, 2009 at 8:31 pmOh forgot to add, how the hell do you get more than 8.0 on you post match ratings? I scored 6 against Chelsea, passed it loads including interceptions, 22 shots on target and didnt get more than 8.0. i was expecting at least a 9!
Assists are difficult as Tevez never scores when i pass it to him but scores wonder goals when Ronaldo passes….makes no sense.
Plus, i play AMF for England, and certain people wont pass to me. The likes of Owen….is it cos i dont pass to him?
-
Graham Says:
January 5th, 2009 at 8:04 pmhey guys.
I see alot of questions here and some simple to answer.
Im in the 2013-2014 season now. At Juventus. I play as AMF. Got good stats. Play for England too. Won alot MOM and MIPs. Won Golden Boot in D1 cup and European and cup and top assists in league and european cup.
What Ive done: Score goals, get assists, pass move recieve and make runs, chip the ball over the defence, get back and help defend. I always get 7.0+. Booking bring down your rating. But ive also got 7.0 with out scoring or getting assists. making alot of tackes and passes helps.
First I maxed out stamina and speed, and half way though each season i changed them to be maxed out on another. now I max out on kicking all the time and rotate the other 6 bars.
For people who are just playing in the training, you have to get good stats in the games to play for the 1st team or you wont get anywhere. and keep the stats up.
Corners: get at the front of 6 yard box. many goals there.
Get down the wing and cross: lots of assists.
Chip the ball over the defence for more assists.
Play the winger in and get in the box for goals.
email me if you need any info.

January 7th, 2009 at 9:05 amThank you guys, But anyone know how to increase the Agility point. I tried anything I can but no improve with Agility skill. Does it depend on Body Physical ?
Any Idea here?
With other skills, I think we should build up by career period. 4 ex: I play as CF, we need concentrate on: Speed, Shoot Power, Shoot technique, and Body Balance. I always use full 6 blocks for each skill I want to build up, so at each time I can build up 2 skills with full 6 blocks. I set skills by pair such as : Speed and Power, Stamina and Body Balance, Technique Shooting and Technique Dribble.
As my case,
1 - First when I was 17, build Speed and Power to 75 and 75.
2 - Then Build Shoot Technique to 75 or little bit more.
3 - Back to build Speed and Power to both 80.
4 - Now you need Stamina to play all 90 minutes of match and Body Balance to keep your ball with high running speed. So build Stamina and Body balance to both 80 at least or 85 is better, with this Stamina you can play until you 20 or older, from now on you don’t need to build up these skills for a long time.
Then back to build up Speed&Power , Technique(kicking&Dribble) for 5 points each time.
If you play all matchs of all Leagues, you can build 5 points for each skill in 1/2 of season.
i’m now 20:
Stamina :85
Body Balance :80
Speed :90
Acc : 85
Shoot Power : 85
Shoot Technique & Acc : 80
Jumb&Heading : 82
other between 70-75.
I think these are good skills needed for CF.Thanks alot.

pu6elist Says:
January 9th, 2009 at 7:00 pmHi guys, I’ve read through your posts and wanted to share my experience so far.
First of all, DO NOT SKIP years at the begining of the game, the reason being u need all of that practice to find out what position you’re best at. E.G. I started as AMC, but at the begining managers in training matches will experiment with you in all the positions you might be suitable at, for me I cycled through AMC, SMF/R, WF/R and SS. Once your first manager discovers where u’re best at they will include you in the A squad and try you out in real games.
Then: if you develope only speed and stamina in the very begining you are to miss out big on the fastest development on the other things. I am in my 5-th season right now and never touched the strength bars (mainly because I need every skill at my position) and have developed quite good. Of course, I would not recommend that to CF or a WF, though DMC and MC’s could benefit from more stamina.
It is also very important what phisique characteristics you will chose in the begining, cuz, you can’t be a good DMC or CF at 175cm, or a winger at 190cm. your weight is also of great importance, especially for the balance and speed (even more important than your strenght bars).
So, my advise between 17 and 19 - try to find your game at different positions (thus you have a better chance for offers from big clubs, then 20-24 profile and choose one particular position and good luck!
Of course, if you are playing at low game difficulty scratch all that, cuz it doesn’t matter what you do!
Last, but not least, av.score is not a determination for nat.team selection. I do not get high scores, 6.18, because I often play out of position, but I am always in the top 10 for both goals and assists (I have patience to develop slowly but all-round), and I am now the first option for the Australian Nat.Team, although I cannot flatter myself with big wins and impossible things like winning every season with Valencia, and with Australia we barely made it through the group stage and got second in the asian cup.

January 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pmMy position is WB and DMF, and i scored 37 goals in one season and 18 in cup games, final rating 7,5, playing in top player, all titles in second season.. My point…
There are no rules, AI is to stupid, you must take all in your hands…
Just - header, jump, header, jump, header, jump….
Speed and body balance…
PES 6 rules!!!!!!!!!!!!! In this one you can take worst player and dribble into a goal.. Boring….
But, become a legend is a nice mod.
For god rating ———
Minimum 3 stolen balls
Minimum 14 good passes
Just shoot, shoot, shoot…
Cover as possibly as you can all soccer terrain.. -

January 29th, 2009 at 1:03 pm@cyan: When you score frequently and sometimes from quite a distance, you get those ticks.
@liwaa: The heart shows player loyalty to your club. The more it’s filled the more loyal the guy is. The x% shows the negotiation difficulty. Higher numbers give you higher chances of success… don’t waste time (and quota) negotiating with 0% players… you won’t be able to get them even at astronomical prices.
For BAL mode, these three attributes will not grow no matter how you train your player: agility, aggression and mentality. If you get a player with only 70 or 75 agility, throw him away and start from scratch… or you might regret later on.
-
dave Says:
January 29th, 2009 at 1:10 pmAnd I really saw people getting 8.5… but what I manage to get is an 8 (many many 8’s without a 8.5…). 8.5 could be obtained if you come on as a sub and make your team come from behind and win the match (that’s what I heard… I haven’t tried myself)
Konami’s rating system is as suck as always… your team can win by a huge margin and has a higher goal-SoT (shot on target) ratio yet your goalie can get lower ratings than the other team’s. They need to improve on this. I can’t see any reason why a 9 shouldn’t be awarded to a player who scores 6 goals in a match (except when all other players are scoring a dozen each, perhaps xD)

January 30th, 2009 at 11:53 amI play on the PS2 and it seems we are missing out a lot on the additional features such as training matches. I would love to put some additional training in. I’m about to finish my third season with Newcastle. I average about 6.4 across the first few seasons but i’m still frustrated at my player’s lack of development and the sheer number of draws. I’ve drawn 16 matches out of 36 this season. It’s ridiculous. It is getting a bit repetitive. I need something to happen. How can you increase your developmental stats quickly?

February 4th, 2009 at 2:28 pmThe best tip I can give for this game, just keep plugging away.
I’ve done well, my player is 24 and began his career as a AMF, now I can play CF, SS, WF, AMF, SMF and CM.
My rating is up at about an 85 average now, but my player is better than most on the stats front, I’ve won european player of the year the last 5 years running and world player of the year the last 4, my stats are the highest for both total goals, assists and rating at both club and national level, I have won every trophy apart from league B D1 cup, League B D1 cup MVP, leading scorer, leading assist, and league B player of the season and team of the season member.
I have stars for dribbling, playmaking, centre, shooting from distance and positioning.
I’ve played for dynamo kiev (1.5 seasons) Man U (1.5 seasons), Barcelona (1 season), Olympic Lyon (3 seasons) Feyenord (0.5 season) inter milan (0.5 season) and now I’m at ajax.
Only tip I can give is this, shuffle all the teams around in each league to ensure quality teams in all divisions and work smart and hard with your player. As for your player ratings, if you’re any good at this game, your instinct should kick in and you can work out what you need. What I’ll do is put a list on of what each block actually improves for your player, just gonna have some lunch first. -

World and european player of the year.
Found the best way to improve stats was to skip the matches in my early years so my stats went up and then played as many matches as i could, score and assist. Got a few special attributes, again just from scoring loads of goals and getting assists

February 17th, 2009 at 11:02 pmAlright folks.
Just wanted to say cheers for the advice on here.
I was really struggling in my 2nd season when i came across this. The first year I broke into the NAC Breda side I scored 10 goals in 24 games, which was decent from midfield.
However, 2nd year I only scored 4 goals all season, could barely do anything in my mainly sub appearances and it was doing my head in. I was still slow and weak, and had barely any stamina, but after reading some of your hints and tips I’m a different player.
I moved to FC Twente at the end of my second season, where I’m being played behind the striker in a 4-4-1-1 and scored 26 goals in 52 games, won the Dutch league and got to the European Final, as well as assisting in 13 goals.
Got to say though, of all the hints I read on here, the most useful one is about corners. I now get to the edge of the 6 yard box everytime, and I must have scored 12-15 goals that way alone! I’ve found if you stand just inside the back post about 7 yards out you’re pretty much sure to score if you win the header.
I’ve also broken into the Scotland national squad so now I’m just waiting for one of the Milan clubs to come in for me and I’m all set!
Cheers again.
Mike.

anyone can help? The ability can be only added in the time of creating the player, But I don’t think you can change or gain that afterward. Anyway that does not help most, some of ability are used only when computer controls the player. Therefore for example “Positioning” is kind of ability that will certainly not help your player for positioning of the player in the field, you have to control yourself. Therefore I suggest you not to go for the special “star” marked abilities but to build the player on other areas like speed, accuracy, shot power, dribble… thanks

February 18th, 2009 at 2:09 pmMe again.
Just a quick question, I’m in my 4th season now and I still don’t have any special abilities from AMF. Granted, my skills aren’t great (I only have all the speed abilities and stamina the other side of 80) but I have done some things like scoring 5 goals in 5 games etc and still not received any new abilities. I’ve even been lucky enough to score a couple of penalties, but I’ve not got that either. What skills is it possible to get from AMF, and do you need these skills to get a move to a big club? (I’m talking one of the Milan clubs as an example, as that’s where I want to be)
Cheers.

March 4th, 2009 at 10:18 pmI’m in my second season on BAL mode on PS3. I am a CF that started out at Portsmouth and scored 16 goals with 3 assists in 40 games in my first season. I found that because I was running around alot to get the ball, skin people and score I was being substituted alot around the 70th-80th minute in most games and possibly not starting the next game due to tiredness. At the end of the season I was in the League D Team of the Season, League D D1 Cup top scorer, League D D1 Cup MVP, European Team of the Year member and World Team of the Year member. I moved to Ajax at the end of the season and I have suddenly been banging in the goals because the opposition defences are much worse than in the English League. However I still keep getting subbed off because my stamina is 79 overall and it’s not good enough clearly. Does anyone know if it is a good idea to put 4/5/6 points for as many categories as possible, play 10 games and then change to another category in order to improve substantially in each area? Also I am the European Championship top scorer and have scored 19 league goals already in 23 games, including two hattricks yet I have not been called up to the England team. Help?

I had to wait until my third season before I got into the national side, so you may need to bide your time. I only got my first cap after playing (and scoring) in the European Final. And I only play for Scotland, who are rubbish! Obviously, with England being ranked much higher it may take you a little longer.
As far as stamina goes, mine is now ranked at 87 and I’m still subbed after 75mins most weeks. I’ve just accepted it as a tactical change, but I’d recommend you put 6 bars on Stamina for about half a season, that should sort you out.
Cheers.

So, you need to choose the right national team to make sure your international exp. is secure. I recommend you to choose France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Argentina. -

March 17th, 2009 at 12:49 pmTo all the players that get subbed early.. I would suggest taking your finger off the sprint button in defence. I have stamina of 85 but don’t be afraid (easier said than done) to let your teammates make the tackles. The manager will take you off if you are out of position too much and overly tired (you can switch your stamina gauge to ‘ON’ at the SETTINGS menu if you want to see how tired you are). Remember, the longer you are on the pitch, the more scoring/assist chances you get so try and avoid sprinting aimlessly!

My friend has a ridiculously succesful career but plays on wide cam or some other rubbish like that! As far as I am concerned if you dont use player cam, then you might as well be playing the normal modes, or playing on easy! Show some commitment and do things properly, as when you score a goal on player camera, there is no better feeling on pro evo! trust me!

March 29th, 2009 at 7:58 ambefore signing for a club, go to:
market data

search by groupand choose the club you are thinking of signing for.
check the team and players, check there stats and check they are good enough to win things. remember it may be man u but they may buy and sell and the team could now be worthless.also before signing check a teams formation. you may want to play for a team that use two strikers so they can set you up to score or vis versa, also a team that uses only one striker may be harder to get into the first team but if you have enough speed could bring lots of goals as the main striker.
i currently play for spurs, have scored 100 goals in 60 games, won the league twice and champions league twice, (no league cup yet?) and 9 goals in 5 games for england and am only 19 years of age. i moved to spurs from portsmouth after half a season, and as far as i have read they seem to be the team that wins everything.

March 29th, 2009 at 4:05 pmi think i’m finally getting the hang of it.
When takling them, don’t hold the pass button down. wait for the right moment then press it.
try to read the play that the other team play, if your team mate is chasing the 1 with the ball, then cover the other player near him so he miss’s the pass or screws up. As for scoring at a young age then set up your follow CF’s and if they miss go for the counter shot after the goali punches back out.
Stay in front of players for corners don’t go behind them and don’t hold the shoot bar down, just a simple tap and an angle. if you think your going to miss then pass it instead. don’t get complex and try take on players just pass the ball around. i just started a new player in the english bit and just after 3 training games i made the bench. scored 2 goals in my 2nd game and that own us the game =D.When moving around don’t hold the run button down as it kills your stamina. wait for the right moments and do your movement.
Don’t Do A Maradona At ALL!!! just pass!! and move into positions that you can be passed to, not near other players.

Regarding raising stats -
From what i can tell you can easily plan out exactly what points you want to go where. I just recently started a new game to test how exact this is… but I am basing it on the following:
Its best to raise points 2 at a time on 6 bars. That way you receive the increase sooner than you would otherwise by spreading your points out.
In the beginning and on the highest difficulty (i dont know if its any different on regular) it takes 8 games to gain 1 point. So with a 38 game season, plus the 2 matches minimum in the league cup gives you 40 games.
This means you have about 10 points to allocate in your first season, and obviously no more than 5 points into one category as you have the two bars running at the same time.
Now i assume that the development level is the same throughout the first 5 seasons, giving you 50 points to dish out as you see fit
Obviously any extra games are a bonus, like getting past the first round of the cup, playing in europe or internationals.
So i look at my new player, CF, and decide i want to add 20 points out of 50 into his kicking ability in the first 5 seasons. That breaks down as 4 points (out of 10) per season.
You will sometimes get stats going up in less than 8 games due to the extra Match Exp points. When this happens choose another category .
I always think of my seasons in 5 x 8 game sections and distribute points like this. You know exactly where you will be.
Then when you play extra matches such as internationals you can choose to boost extra categories.
For example i decided with my CF that i would use 20 points in kicking, 10 points in speed, 13 points in dribble, and 7 points in balance over the first 5 seasons. (Totals 50 points).
Now there is no power or stamina boosts here. So whenever i play extra matches that dont count in the first 40 games as explained above, i put them in power and stamina.
The next 5 seasons, i am assuming, reduces your points in half. So between 22 and 26 you have another 25 points to add, plus any from extra games played.
-
Joey Says:
April 8th, 2009 at 2:04 amAbout that strength bar, Stamina play hell an important role. I suggest that you make your stamina to be at least 90 > before going for other options.
As a CM, i strengthen alot on Kicking. I put 5 bar on kicking as it improve my passing, long pass, shooting and technique.
Then comes my balance, power and my speed. Power and Balance are better option as for a CM you rare sprint to beat your opponent. Most of the time you’ll be challenging for a ball and if you have great balance, then you wont fall easily.
I’m currently playing my 4th season on Pro Level at Liverpool. Anyone having problem starting when your form arrow turned blue or purple? I will not start everytime i’m out of form.
-
asoxedri Says:
April 8th, 2009 at 10:12 amyea i meant what (G) said, the form guide arrows. i figured out how this works as well. when you play against these clubs, if you put on a good performance previous games then, your arrow will be (orange/red) facing up. if you don’t play good against them, then your arrow will be facing down.
another thing i noticed is when your not playing the game and your team is doing terribly, you also get affected.
has any1 noticed when your playing at clubs your character seems weaker. yet when you play international games for some odd reason your char seems stronger and able to do things that they were not before and as soon as club games start again you go back to your rubish self.
I have a top speed of 90 but i can’t beat a race with defenders with speeds of 75 ish, i think its got to do with acceleration as mines only 77.
someone on another forum mentioned they discovered how to raise agility but didn’t specify how. is this true or all porkies?

April 9th, 2009 at 4:04 pmBrendon, there is no way on earth you got those career stats in anything other than Beginner level. 107 goals in 45 matches in your first season? Do me a favour. In your Beginners mode the defenders dont even hardly tackle, and you can just walk through defences and score at will :s
You should try playing on Top Player, its much tougher going but well worth the reward, and only on Top Player does the computer AI play properly. The defenders will actually try to tackle you as well
Cesar, as far as i know the points always stop at 95. Getting to 95 massively increases the stat though. So the level of improvement between 94 and 95 is much much greater than from 84 to 85.

April 9th, 2009 at 4:07 pm@Joey…
I guess stamina is much more important for you as a CM as you have to run up and down a lot!
As a CF you dont need to do all the running. My stamina is at 80 and thats just fine, especially for the first few seasons. I very rarely finish a game in the red.
Also why only 5 bars in Kicking? Why not 6 bars? Only in 5 bars it is taking you longer to get the stat increase. Only an extra 2 games but still! Where is the other 1 bar?

April 10th, 2009 at 10:26 ami played that accessgaming version with those patches that updates the kits, boots etc etc. i started a new game on become a legend and i scored 3 goals in the first scout match, its a pure joke i think they tampered with the difficulty, because on regular on normal PES i can’t run past the defense but in the patch’d one, its piss easy (Regular mode both)
I’ve been attempted lots of shots outside the box and its working for me.!! you guys should give it a go. my attack is 81 or 2 can’t remember and my shot acc is 84
i’ve got dribble acc and shot acc on full bars until i hit the 90’s!!!
i have 90 speed (^.^) !! but 78 acceleration (>.<)
also when playing for higher ranked teams you don’t get to take penalties or free kicks but when i was playing for my first team, most of the kicks were mine!!

April 11th, 2009 at 6:21 pmHello!
I’ve got a question, for some reason in my BAL career the Italian league is missing. Is this normal? did I choose to not have it at the start? I wanna play for a Italian side.
Currently 28 years old, CM/AM/SS;
Playmaker and Centre Red Ticks
1x World Player of the Year
1x Euro Player of the Year
Just scored my 200th career goal
Helped England to Euro and World Cup titlesPlayed for lots of teams but all my real success has come during 4 years at Man Utd and 2 years at Real Madrid (where I am now). I was a bit rubbish until about the age of 21 when I started getting good.
so anyway, Italian League?? What happened there?

April 13th, 2009 at 4:32 pmHey i play PES 09 on PS2, finding it ok tbh. I’m a CF, but have also played on the wing and as an AMF. Started off at Newcastle, then went to a side in the Spanish League and now currently in the starting lineup as a striking partner with Torres for Liverpool. Averaging about 8.0/9.0 for each match, getting MVP’s with 153 goals in 120 odd appearances. I’m thinking, yea not too bad, but I really don’t know how to get a national call up or get Euro best player and Worlds best player awards.
These are my best stats:
Attack: 80
Speed: 89
Stamina: 85
Trying to level up on all the rest. Also, is this mode where you train with the club and play reserve matches, and get a salary, is this only for xbox, PS3 and computer?

I started at portsmouth, came off the bench to put man utd to the sword 2-0, played with portsmouth until 18 signed for man utd, spent 6 seasons there, 6 league titles, 5 domestic cups, 4 european cups, signed for chelsea 2 leagues 2 cups and a european cup
2 european championships with poland and semis in the world cup
5 european footballer of the year awards
3 world player460 goals in 478 games so far for club
49 goals in 41 games for poland
average rating atm of 7.20best stats atm
speed 95
stamina 91
others are around 80-87problem club cant function without me i.e score goals, if my manager decides to rest me which has happened a few time, my team gets a boring 0-0 draw of loses 1-0, apart from this, the mode itself is great, cant wait to finish this one and start ot all over again.

April 16th, 2009 at 4:59 pmHi all
Just started a new game now, as a SS, and I’m loving it! Into my third season, I’ve scored 124 goals in 104 games, and have broken into the England side, where I’ve scored 10 goals in 11 games.
Started at Galatassary and moved to Celtic at the end of the season, and I’ve won the league with both teams and the cup at Celtic.
I’ve found that boosting your technical kicking and speed (6 on both for 2 whole seasons) does wonders for your stats.
Also, as a striker, stand about 8 yards out in the middle of the goal when corners come over. You’re in with a shout of a goal from almost every corner! If that fails, try a late near post run from corners, which is also another option.
I’d also advise you to let the other striker play as target man. You try and time some late runs in the box, and when the keeper fumbles or parries, you have a tap in!
Hope some of this is useful.

i got called up to national team at season 4 age 20, happened to me during the first negotiation period, so be patient. and i won euro best player award by setting up the most goals and scoring most goals (i think anyway).
I have no idea how you get world best player award though. i presume its got something to do with the ratings, that you get during matches. i have an average of 7 but i get 7.5 and 8’s sometimes but they are dragged down by occasional 6.5’s.

Not all the leagues are available as there are too many, so one is always skipped.
There’s only 4 leagues in become a legend, and yet on the game there is the English, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch, not to mention the other sides like Celtic etc.
You’d need to start again to play in Italy.

April 21st, 2009 at 2:23 pmI’m terribly sorry guys but I have a question.
I see some guys posting here about how many goals they make even someone saying:
“i play pes2009 and always get 9.0-9.5..to get this rating u must score at least 4 goals and 2 assist..if u a cf dont play as cb ok”
Now I feel I am pretty good at this game and I managed to score 4 goals only once and that gave me an 8.5, I play 5 min games and Top Player.
So to everyone getting 9,0 or higher, scoring 4 goals and 2 assists a game, and always finishing first in the league (which i still havent done at age 29. I’ve been 2nd 3 times)
Are you playing at an easy level? like amateur? Or are you playing longer games? Or do I just suck so bad and dont realize it? -

i’ve scored 4 goals only like 4-5 times within 1 game through out entire career.
my char age is 24 at the moment and i play 10 minute games. i suppose it gives me twice the time to score and control the game.

As I mentioned above, when I was 19 I won America Cup for Brazil and was the best player in that tournament, but never been called up again for National Team…guess I should picked a nationality with a rather weaker national team after all…In the long run Alexandre Pato is a destroyer, even better than Robinho…in fact, I think those two are preventing me from being called..heheh -

Now I have a hundred times better stats and better rating, and Dunga (brazilian national team coach) seems to have forgotten me..hehehh

April 29th, 2009 at 2:13 pmOk i can see everyone writing down what the have and havent achieved, “i scored a billion goals for Wigan in my first season” etc….Whatever!! People who say they’ve scored anymore than max 60 goals in a season aren’t playing on top player………. FACT!! Heres my ‘brief’ player history before i get onto my point…Im now 24 and a AMF. The last 3 years i won the league with Lyon - then Chelsea and finally Real Madrid, i score on average 35-40 goals per season with 15-20 assists. I have an average rating of about 7.2 and i never skip games. Last season i got voted Euro/World player of the year and i have just moved to Roma.
But anyway my point is whilst everyone is going on about what they have/havent achieved they don’t answer the questions being asked. My question is HOW can you get to be the set piece taker for your club/country, i really want to take the pens/free kicks (not from deep) but in and around the box for my club but how do i achieve this, do i need a certain level of stats i.e 85 shot accuracy or is it something else?
Also I would love to be captain, does anyone know how to achieve this?!
Any help with this would be AWESOME…. please please please email me with the answer if you know, much appreciated and your all lgends in my eyes! haha

Adriano Cardoso Says:
April 29th, 2009 at 2:32 pmActually, there is a specific stat for this, but the name of it escapes me right now…maybe free kick accuracy or something like that. Well, like everything else related to PES 2009, I only suspect that if you have 85+ in this stat you will start performing free kicks around the big box. As for corner kicks, I believe that the needed stats are long pass accuracy and curve.

just a tip i haven’t read here…
in the early year where you lack stamina try to keep an eye on your status..
when selected for the 1st squad, before playing just take a quick look at how fit you are..
if the green bar is less than 60% i advise to skip the next game…
you will be fit for the next game and performe al lot better with your stamina full again..
try it, works like a charm..
….at least in my game….greets

I remember the 2006 cup. As a brazilian I have to say… Awful, awful…hehehe. In our defense I have to tell that that national team was embarassing, the poorest as far as I can recall. Obviously that this does not take the credit away from Zidane and France. He is a genius indeed.
Weak foot accuracy does not increase with time…luckly I put some points there from the start, which I think is a no brainer for any CF player. -
asoxedri Says:
April 29th, 2009 at 10:00 pmi use to support the old brazilian team back in 1998, they played so beautifully, i felt after bartez knee’d ronaldo the game was over. i actually cried when brazil lost i was so pissed. these new kids like c. ronaldo etc i don’t think they give the same sparks as good old classics like the brazilian ronaldo or zidane etc. for instance compare two top defenders of today, john terry and ferdinand to roberto carlos at his best.
football was about skills and talent, now its about milking the referee out of every free kick. what do they do these days, practise how to dive?
i think the reason brazil lost to france in that game was because they looked up to ronaldo too much, he was their “main” man if you will but he was out of shape and could not create anything. where as zinedine was in tip top shape and playing like gods gift to france. its so blatently obvious that italy would have lost if zidane was not sent off.
i like this arsenal new defender Gibbs, his playing really well. credit to almuny he saved good shots otherwise man utd would be sailing through. i felt however we played really well on man utd’s ground. i think we could cause them a lot of problems at emirates!

it has something to do with your personal stats
but also the club you play for (teammates)
if your stats for free kicks etc. become better than the player who normaly takes these kicks or is captain
than you probably will be selected automaticly
by your manager…
(kind of the same procedure for selection for national teams…)i play for a weak squad and therfore already an important player even though im only halfway the 2nd season…

when i played for liverpool and even though ronaldo had better free kick stats then me i still got to take the free kicks. before i could only take the kicks only when ronaldo was on bench as i had 2nd best free kick accuracy but after some time i got to take all near goal free kicks(even though ronaldo had better and was on pitch). i think it has to do with your player rating.
also some1 mentioned something about a heart which fills when your loyalty goes to the club or something. i have not noticed this anywhere in BAL mode. or is it only on the console BAL modes?

May 5th, 2009 at 5:41 pmanother tip i can give you guys is that, the D league is much easier then the english leagues, so you can performe better and get more match experience very essential for a CF trying to get goals.
if your strong foot is right then play on the left side and opposite if the your strong foot is left. ( as you can get nice long distance shots off and 7/10 times you can get them in just outside the box. also aim to face the goal at a diagonal run before you shot.
if you are jogging then try to tap the run button just before you shoot, it gets a more powerful shot in.
try not to shoot facing down/up or back towards your own goal cos more often then not you will miss unless you have very good swerve and shot technique and shot acc.

But, on the ps2 version you could allocate points onto your skills, like speed, stamina, etc. But on this one you can’t? Or am i missing something?
And someone explain this “strengthen” thing with those bars. I’m so bad

-
asoxedri Says:
May 6th, 2009 at 10:37 pmbased on the position of your player you allocates points to areas which you want to improve.
for example an attacker would have
Dribble (attack)
Dribble (technique)which would improve your shot acc, FK acc attack skills, technique etc etc.
if defender then you’d have things like
Stamina
Body Balanceso on and so forth.

May 8th, 2009 at 12:44 pmthis game would be fantastic if you could actually play the legend mode online, like while your playing against other teams it would be against another player online who is playing for the other team. e.g. me play for Arsenal CF and someone else for instance sean @ atletico madrid = season mode.
if they add that feature to the game it would be best ever imo.
i know you can play online but its not quite the same.
can you imagine like you = CF or wotever and one of your friends = CM and you both play for the same team but rest of team COM controls against other teams who have others of their friends etc but still in BAL mode so you can gain experience and develope your player.

May 11th, 2009 at 6:59 pmHI guys,
All of you seem to be amazing at the game, i mean 20 year old player who has already won three cups etc etc. I cannot get anywhere near that, i’m playing on proffessional mode which isn’t the hardest yet i can’t even get my guy onto the bench!!!!.
What do i have to do to get more than a 6.5 in a training game. I’m a CF. I’ve tried moving into space, calling for the ball aswell as many other things. I think the problem is i cannot shoot!!! the stats start rubbish and i can’t seem to put it in the net, yet when i go onto master league, i have no problem with the normal players.
I started out age 17, CF 165, with the stamina above 80 before i was signed by a prof team. I’ve scored a few in training but don’t seem to get good ratings, can somebody help this amatuer out, lol ????
thnx

Joey Says:
May 12th, 2009 at 1:39 pmStay at your position.. Dont play to deep. Try to read the game and made some crucial interception. And the most important.. try to run into awesome position when asking for a through pass.. I’m a CM.. and frankly speaking.. the 1st season is the toughest.. after that.. a piece of cake.

Joey Says:
May 12th, 2009 at 1:40 pm@Footy Fanatik
You’ll get to take Free kick and Corner Kick when u have great passing stats…
-
Collin Says:
May 12th, 2009 at 2:22 pm@Frustrated Bob
to get higher ratings you should try to play as a CF
i mean, try to stay in position and dont go all the way back to defend…
try to be the most forward player,
your teammates wil try to pass more when you do
(i dont have to raise my arm anymore..)and to quote a remark “dont try to be maradonna” but use your teammates.. so just pass, pass pass..
every good pass will ad to your final rating..
(and maybe some assists…)
but beware that bad passes harm your rating
try not to make fouls and certainly dont score yellow and red cards..you dont even have to score if you play like this to score a 7 or higher…
scoring tip..
try a sidestep when facing the goaly and place it in a corner… 1 in 3 should go in that way..good luck!
-
Collin Says:
May 12th, 2009 at 2:59 pmo yeah… what joey said…
try to read the game… &
some crucial interceptions will help a great deal to!!not totaly sure about it but i think it also takes a little time for your teammates to get used to you…
in my first games i was overlooked a lot
even when in great positions..
but now after a few games they seem to pass me a lot more.. i think it has something to do with “teamwork” stats you can see in formation settings and the fact that my teammates are more used to me now…can someone confirm or is it my imagination?
greets
-
Collin Says:
May 12th, 2009 at 3:31 pm@ nikos
thats it… you just get those 12…
its up to you how to use them…
depending on what sort of player you plan to be or witch position you play..(i started out raising stats for speed and stamina
because speed is my best weapon as striker
and i dont want to be out of breath after 1 half..) -
lamer Says:
May 14th, 2009 at 1:33 amhey guys, i made a cf, 195 centimeters, and 118 kilos lol. Does that decrease speed and so on, comparing if i would of created much smaller player?
also do you guys skip matches, or you guys play all the games? i personally played only half of the 1st season, then i skipped 2 seasons or so, and now i am playing only cup games, and regular season games against good teams.
also can you guys give me some advice on on what strengths should i be working? -
lamer part 2 Says:
May 14th, 2009 at 1:37 amsorry for double post, but i also noticed of how at first if i had let say 6pts on speed, after every game i would get 12 pts, but now i am getting only 7 or 8. i am only 20 years old at this time. i already changed 5 clubs. speed is 92 right now. But even other things like shot power getting only 7-8 points after every game… and its only 79 right now.
-
lamer strikes again lol Says:
May 14th, 2009 at 8:16 pmi started all over, SS 181 cm, 79 kg, playing for torino f.c. After 2nd training match i made inter a sguad, and after 3rd game i made a bench.
now last question. i play pc version and i do use logitech dual shock. do you guys use a stick on offense and defense, or you guys use arrows all the time, or the lil bit of both, maybe a stick on defense and on offense arrows? i found arrows easier on offense because i can do zig zags, and get to the needed area easier. how ever on defense im having troubles intercepting the ball, also stealing it. any advise? thanks a lot
-
Collin Says:
May 15th, 2009 at 1:28 pmhi Lamer..
yes if your player is 118 kilo’s he will be a lot slower than lighter players …they wont push you over though…
i only skip matches if im not fit enough
i play the rest of the games, the only way to gain exp.strengts is personal..
im a striker and speed is my best weapon
so i focused on speed and stamina at first..how older you get how slower growing gets…
i cant play with sticks, so everything with the arrows
zig zig is easy but your player needs the stats to pull it of…watch the goaly when he gets al backball and cant pick it up..
most of the time easy to intercept..GL

asoxedri Says:
May 16th, 2009 at 2:21 pmbest advise i can give you is play all your games while your young. (17-23) my age is 26-7 now i can’t remember and i only get 3 points per game per stat depending on what i have put my strengths on. Plus game experience points are like a rare blue moon.
as a CF i regret putting a lot of my strengths on speed. i wish i had put them on dribble kick and dribble technique. all you really need as a CF is a lot of acceleration, shot acc, shot technique, technique.
if you stay in your position and try to keep dead sharp with the off side trap then when long balls come, they are yours more often then not. obviously against big teams do drop back sometimes when you sense a threat.
Interceptions and completing pass’s is the key to getting very high ratings. assisting goals and scoring is a bonus but i’ve got a 8 rating just by completing pass’s and intercepting like 7-8 times. try understand how the COM plays and if you can understand their play type then you can read it and set your player to slide tackle and intercept the ball.
getting 90 technique is gods gift in this game for a CF.
you can pull off the good skills and get past defense with ease. i’m trying to get 95 and then they won’t flop the technique. because even at 90 they do mis kick sometimes and you lose the ball. but when playing with ronaldinho in normal games he never mess’s up (he got 97 technique)shot technique also helps a lot as when you stretch for balls or hit volleys or bicycle kicks you hit them more accurately. and if its above 90 (will result in goals 8/10 times)
but its very crucial you don’t skip your games when your young as you can gain a lot of game experience if you play well. try play 10minute games or more, to give you more time on the ball and keep your team under control.
i have not gained captain yet but i get to take all the penalty kicks and all the free kicks when i’m playing.
also to the comment above. yes when you play well for your club, the team players give you priority over others when your close to them, they pass you the ball instead of others. also when your young, if you get given a oppertunaity to take a free kick, make sure you create a threat with it. if you keep doing this. then even despite your other team mates having better free kick accuracy, you will get priority to take them even if they are on pitch playing with you.

@footy fanatik,
yes you require team work and play making skills i presume for captain.
and i was called up to national team in early 20’s can’t remember exact but i think it was 20-21, took me by supprise as it happen during negotiation period. you got to score better ratings then the national team actual players who-ever it is your going to replace or be on the bench for.

asoxedri Says:
May 18th, 2009 at 1:16 pmWARNING TO ALL!!!!
if you play on PC and you have not got patch 1.10 to 1.40 your game will crash during your games/carrers in BAL/Master League etc.
it will just give you a error message and won’t allow you to continue. i’ve done lots of searches on the problem and once this happens to you, if you don’t have back up of your save then you’ve lost your save.
once you install the patches, it will tell you, your saved file is corrupt and won’t load it. and there is no way of getting it back.
I’m very annoyed. my character had 6 x 95 skills and rest were high 80’s and some 90’s in season 2019. and i was only 27 years age. it makes me a bit angry i spent so much time on it (>. 2.1 -> 2.2 etc etc)for it to work.
i downloaded it but i didn’t like the game play because i find the original better gameplay quality.
-
asoxedri Says:
May 18th, 2009 at 1:21 pmplease ignore what i said from (27 years age.) afterwards. as this site has mixed up what i wrote.
@footy fanatik
gamingaccess has all the patches. but i don’t think you can just download the boots, but do check because i have not.
i know they have all the kits fixed to real ones and all the transferes and pretty much everything + it lets you choose if you want setanta, sky sports etc for your boards and score list thing.
you need to install from patch 2.0 -> 2.1 -> 2.2 all the way to 3.0, installing patch by patch until it works. oh and it has all the classic teams and players as well as new background and other such stuff. i installed it but i didn’t like the gameplay as it felt less realistic then the original.
If any1 needs help with patch 1.10 to 1.40 + crack, give me a shout here and i’ll help you out.

@ system
you need to actually do those things numerous times and then they get checked. for e.g. you need to score 1 on 1 with goal keeper many times, you need to do 1 touch pass’s from cross’s and other pass’s etc etc.
and you write better english then some of my mates.!

May 20th, 2009 at 12:08 pma good tip i can give to any new starter is, when you get offers from other teams that are still in tournaments and yours is knocked out of the tournament. go sign for that team so you get the extra training match, or bench, or actual game, because lets face it while your young the more games you play the better your stats.
since i lost my char to this save bull5hit i’ve had to start again. its doing my head in, i was so comfortable on the ball and could out run almost all players now, i’m playing with a char with 76 speed (>.<) my own shadow runs faster then me.
-
alex Says:
May 20th, 2009 at 3:56 pmAhh, asoxedri, we all have to start somewhere
My stats are improving. Got called up for the England squad halfway through my second season, i’m not too sure why though, ahh well, can’t complain
The thing that bothers me in this game, is that the keepers make good saves, like when they parry the ball etc. why do the commentators, especially Mark Lawrenson, give them such bad marks and ratings? When parrying is all that they can do for that shoot.
-
alex Says:
May 20th, 2009 at 3:58 pm*shot even.
Also, another thing is where my team mates won’t pass the ball to me when i’m in acres of space, onside. They’d much rather pass it right back to the keeper or other defenders.
-
asoxedri Says:
May 20th, 2009 at 8:23 pmthe commentators are a load of rubbish. i scored 3 goals which lead to the team i was in to win, and when i was sub’d off, one of them goes #”well he can’t complain really, he was not having a good day”# i’ve turned the sound off and i listen to audio books while i play or music.
your team mates start prioritising you over others when you become a high rated player in the team. what that basically means is you scoring goals(lots) getting your team out of trouble by coming back from 1-0 or 2-0 or wotever. setting up other players for goals.
you say your only in season two (half way through) i presume somewhere between these seasons you’ve made at least 1 transfer and your team is not quite use to you being in the team.
to be honest, at the moment i could not careless who i play for, i was playing for ports and we got knocked out of tournament and then i got an offer from newcastle (which were still in the tournament) so i signed up with them just to get the few extra match points+ experience points. its crazy getting 12 + experience points per slot. i was on 3 points per game with my other char. lol

Dude wtf?!?! Says:
May 21st, 2009 at 6:49 amOk guys, this game is really starting to get the most of me, and i am sorry for my language but im going to punch the fuck out of my monitor and i am a calm type person. I do play PC version, and i use logitech dual shock. I just finished the 1st season, being SS, and i scored 9 goals, no assists. The goals mostly come right at the start of the game, i just dribble thru defense and i score. One game i had 2 goals, however most of the games i get ball intercepted. I know i suppose to pass a lot, but even so, i doubt i managed to score a goal myself after a lot of passing.
Another things that pisses me a lot is fucking defense. Sometimes opponents just dribles for 10-15 minutes, passing to each other like bunch of bitches and they going nowhere, but they still just pass around. I read most of the comments and some guys gets 5-8 interceptions while playing 5 minutes on the highest level, and i do play on normal level 10 minutes, and i probably average just little bit over 1 interception a game. My record might be 3 interceptions but i doubt it. I played this game before, i probably have over 30 gaming hours and i still can’t do shit. The whole 1st season i had 6 points on speed and stamina. Trying to reach at least 80 on stamina (i do have just little bit over 79 now), and 83 speed.
Do you guys use a lot of L1 option which is auto-move on the defense and offense? I really dont get much luck with sliding tackles, the best way for me to intercept is just use sprint and when opponent makes a pass, i cut in the middle (or so) and i intercept… but this happens rarely. Can you guys give me hints how to intercept…? And please do it in basic/plain english, thanks for understanding.
p.s. can anyone drop a link of a video of someones game whos good at this game? Also with explanations.. it would be very nice. Thanks a lot
-
asoxedri Says:
May 21st, 2009 at 11:36 am@dude wtf?!?!
9 goals for your first season is pretty impressive in my opinion dude. i scored only 4. i do intercept a lot though. no i don’t use the L1 button which automatically moves your char around. i run back to help defence out i stay in box before they cross and head ball out. or if i think enough defenders in box i run after the guy running to corner to try cross it in.
i also cut the ball by sprinting and cutting the pass out between two players. but you got to know how the AI play in this game to do that. also try read the game, try predict where the AI is going to pass the ball next and cover that player and then when he pass’s somewhere else go cover the other players which are open and nearest to him but bare in mind to cover goal side of AI chars.
when you are attacking, if the defender is facing you head on and you have enough space between you, tap the L1 button and do cross overs until you sense its about to tackle you then hit the corner button and you should get past him with enough gap between you to be able to outrun him completely.
when running along a defender with the ball, and you sense its about to slide tackle you, don’t press anything and press and hold the R1(LB) button then change your direction. and keep doing this until your near enough to the goal and can take a shot.
i’ll shoot a video later and upload it and i’ll post link so you know exactly what i mean.
also if you have shot accuracy 75 or + take outside box shots. they will start to go in.
-
asoxedri Says:
May 21st, 2009 at 11:38 ami forgot to add, if your taking outside box shots, tap the run key just before hitting the shot button. it gives it power rather then hight

Mark Says:
May 22nd, 2009 at 12:32 pmThis game is all about personal glory! If you lose and still win MVP then who cares about the defense? Teams are going to be interested in you! When you start off you will only make a small impact and, yes, the defenders do like to kick the ball off for throw-ins! I have moved teams a lot to get trophies across the divisions and now have settled at Chelsea, aged 24, with me on the left, Ronaldo on the right, and either the Drog or Anelka up top. The defense is rock. Me and Ronny consistently win the top awards. Wasn’t like that when I was at Man City believe me!! I DOMINATED the French League with Monaco, likewise with Porto. I find Italy and English leagues are the most challenging (No Spanish in my set up ) My advice… Play it a lot, form partnerships, win respect, and wait for the best transfers to come your way cos Chelsea only came in for me on the FINAL week of the transfer window and were the ONLY offer on the table as all of the others had given up (my speed has stopped at 95 by the way and I have NEVER skipped matches) Started off scoring goals from keeper fumbles and corners but the best tip from me is the ‘give and go’ button followed by the ‘receive pass’ button. Great for creating spaces behind defenders and getting one-on-one opps. Oh.. and you have just got to learn to take the ball round the keeper!! Enjoy!

Their stupidity are tremedous! As for defending or attacking, they are much weaker than the AI. The computer rarely misses a pass or will let my mates steal the ball easily…
I´m saying that because, in my point of view, this is a downside of the game…the harder it gets the computer should be smarter and not the friendly players more stupid…

14-….: Barcelona (Current Top Scorer thanks to Messi and Co.)Position: WF(Left)
Scores: 123 goals
Assist: 36
Country: Wales (Europe Cup and World Cup winner both win MVP)To win EPoY and WPoY you must maintain the rating to the top among all players. My rating now is 7.10 on top of Villa(7.03) and Messi(7.05).
Sometimes, scoring goal only not enough to get high rating. GOOD ASSIST is more important. So try to score goal in every matches and made an ASSIST. SHOT ON TARGET also is important, beside that made your PASS meaningful to teammate. OK!

Dave Says:
July 6th, 2009 at 8:45 pmJust a few pointers for anyone still having trouble:
1) Your player starts off crap. There’s no shame in turning the skill level down a bit to compensate, if you have it high because you’ve been playing matches with better players. I was used to playing on Pro or World Class, but didn’t get anywhere in Become a Legend until I turned it down to Intermediate. Hey presto, average rating went up by >1.0 each match. Also, if you’re not doing badly on the pitch, but most matches are finishing 0-0 or 1-0, you can either turn the skill level down one, or set the match to be longer. I find that the shorter the match, the more extreme the variation in your match rating - it is more likely to be very good, or very bad, because you’ve had less chance for it to even out. If you play longer matches, it’s more likely to be close to the average rating each time.
2) Don’t spread your stats around at the start (like most guides tell you to). Concentrate all your strength blocks into two categories to start with. Which ones you need to choose depends on how you play, but because I was playing an attacking midfielder, and I like to run with the ball, I worked on speed and dribbling only for the first two/three seasons so that I could at least get into position to pass or shoot. After that, I went for stamina (because there was no point extending my time on the pitch before I could do anything useful with it), and once that was at a good level (another season or so) I switched to skills, power and balance. Other styles of play might well benefit from a different order - for example, someone playing a deep-lying passer would do well to go for skill from the off.

-
ms Says:
July 13th, 2009 at 11:50 amalways have a look at your players form arrow before a match too, if its red or orange, play the match and run pass and shoot as much as possible, blue or purple skip the match because you won’t be much use to the team off form as passing shooting and dribbling are seriously affected by form arrows.

July 19th, 2009 at 8:16 amI need help. I am at the moment 17 years old. I play for Athletic Bilbao and I’m top goal scorer for all tournaments (including WC qualifying etc…). But none of my Technique, Attack, Defence, Agility etc. won’t increase for some reason?
Also, can you choose what team you want to change to? Because i’m getting very irritated playing in a low-class team and want to play with the worlds best (soon me).
I play games and NEVER pass. But score many goals and usually average 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and 8.5. Is it possible to get a 9-10 in a game?
What do you do with Salaries? At the moment I’m getting 150 (P) (I don’t know what that means either).
What do you do with the Stick Figure which changes its actions each game? Because It just makes me think why it has that little triangle pointing on it.
Cheers.
FERNANDEZ, Roger.

July 21st, 2009 at 6:18 pmHello all,
Just a quick question. Most people here seem to have really good stats across the board and it has been mentioned that you can change stats when you create a player. Is this on the console versions as I don’t think you can do this on the PC version? Pretty sure you just get what you are given. Im doing ok on the game but what was just curious how people seemed to get such good stats.

August 1st, 2009 at 6:03 pmI think i’ll leave shitty AZ when the transfer season comes, I hate the dutch league. The coach always leaves me on the bench for matches and then I come on with half an hour to go. Half an hour on a 5minute match is nothing. AZ have 8 FORWRADS including me and play a 4-5-1 so when I do come on I play AMF or SMF instead of my preferred CF.
I know a few teams I’d prefer to go to if I stay in the dutch league, PSV or Ajax. But if I was to leave the league I’d go back to the Prem or Bordeaux in France.
My skills: attack-87, speed-92, agility-82, shot accuracy-86, shot power-90, header-83 and jump-80

August 16th, 2009 at 3:23 amI;ve scored 239 goals in the first season, hit man of match every game, won all available trophies for the 1st season, but had it on the std amatuer level, got 8.0 every game, and played only most games in full, cranked up stats for lots of areas, but never got a 9 rating. I played 10 min games, but never got a 9, so is it possible to get a 9 in amatuer level?
i.e in a single game, 30 passes all perfect, 13 goals, 4 assists, 9 intercepts, 438 yards, and all in the zone for the position, but got an 8…. how on earth do you get a 9?! I’ve played until retired in legend mode but never got above 8 on amatuer….
scoring too many goals - does stop you from being on the start line up, as I had great stamina but was too greedy in the game for me to be a start line up player….i.e more passes / team playing?? anythoughts?

Overall, it is just a game. We got to know how hard a teenager play to achieve to be a professional player. If you like scoring unrealistic 2-3 goals in a match, go down to the amature level.

Messi Says:
October 27th, 2009 at 11:13 am[Edit] I have a few hints in this post, its not all just about me
I like the hints provided but as i’m now into my second season i don’t really need help now. Basically i started the game as a Winger, my player name is “Messi” and without looking at their stats i’m trying to base my game on partly Cristiano Ronaldo and partly Messi. They are the best in the world at what they do and both can be devastating on the Wing and in the central positions. I signed for Middlesbrough who i thought were the best choice out of the 3 i got given. We then went on to win the Cup and were 5th in the league. Come the end of the season, the final game, we were first but had to win in order to win the League. We won 2 - 0 thanks to a goal from me and an Assist.
I’ve found that even with lower stats, if your a good enough player, you can influence any game at all. My problem is, i have the Cristiano Ronaldo disease from my early age. I can’t seem to score more than twice in a game! I score twice and then fluff the rest of my chances for some reason…
In the first season i have based my stats around getting all my passing, technique, shooting and attacking stats raised. This season i am going to add the devastating speed stats to my array which are already kind of decent.
[Hint] When you start for the first time and you play for the small club where scouts are watching. Make sure you get a rating of 7.5 or over in that game! This is vital to getting good stats to start with.
My Stats To Start With (7.5 Rating):
88 Agility
85 Top Speed
81 Stamina
75 Mentality
74 Dribble Speed
72 Acceleration
71 Body BalanceIf you don’t achieve a good rating, then retry the match. Just log out of your profile and load the game again which will let you play the match again. Make sure you get at least 80 Stamina and very good agility. This allows you to focus on other stats rather than raising Stamina which takes ages to do. If you got similar speed style stats to me, it also allows you to focus on the shooting and passing rather than speed in your first season as you are already kind of fast.
[Hint] Set your height to at least 190 and if you want to follow what i’ve done, set your weight to 65. I hardly ever get beat at headers even though my heading stats aren’t great.
My current stats partly into the new season:
71 Attack
71 Balance
81 Stamina
85 Agility
73 Acceleration
88 Agility
77 Dribble Speed
63 Short Pass Accuracy
66 Short Pass Speed
65 Long Pass Accuracy
68 Long Pass Speed
67 Shot Accuracy
69 Shot Power
67 Shot Technique
64 Swerve
68 Headers
70 Jump
64 Technique
74 Aggression
75 Mentality
60 TeamworkThose are the main stats and most of them started below 60. The Speed stats aren’t much different except Dribble Speed as that goes up slowly with how i was training my guy.
[Hint]
First Season 6 bars on Technique Kicking and Technique Dribbling
Second Season 6 bars on Technique Dribbling and Speed
This allows a whole season on improving your players overall abilities and then a whole season on improving how fast he can use them and how fast he can move. The third season, i have yet to decide on.
[Hint] Base your player on someone or a couple of players but don’t just copy their stats, try to impliment your own into your player, because afterall, he is you and cant be anybody else!
-
Messi Says:
October 27th, 2009 at 11:40 amAlso a hint to score corners, when your team gets a corner, get infront of the defenders in the centre of the posts, their should be 1 defender right behind you towards to far post, and mostly always 2 defenders next, also if one of your team mates is their, get infront of him. Then when the ball is crossed, simply tap the header button slightly and choose an angle and you will score.

I already scored in like 9 or 10 matches in a raw, i tricked the auto save at some point…does that affect the special abilities?
my stats are increasing pretty well but no special ability coming up.
I still just have the “Balanced” special ability, wich is the basic one, but i would like to have more…
Anyone got a hint? please help, i am struggling.

Its better not being at a big club, I get more of the ball and longer on the pitch…got my self back in the England squad. Any one else as hooked as I am on become a legend as I am.

December 7th, 2009 at 12:43 pmI’m still hooked on this game. Those with Stamina issues…..don’t chase after every ball. Better to stay in open positions so that the rest of the team can pass to you ( If they are good, they’ll do the work). This way you last longer on the pitch, you see more of the ball and have greater chances of scoring.
I’ve won the World and European Player trophies twice each now but still waiting for a good French side to make an offer. -

December 7th, 2009 at 12:48 pmOne more thing….When your team mates have the ball, hold L1 to add pressure and X to tackle if they are near the opposing player with the ball. Holding R1 will only drain your personal stamina bar.

February 24th, 2010 at 1:07 pmJust popped PES2009 back in my PS3 and hooked once more on BAL mode! Got the ‘Leading Assists’ in the Champions League and got the treble with Chelsea. Only finished 2nd in Italian League in past so just moved to Juve for my third 5000 salary in a row!! I really wanted Torino as Messi is there and I haven’t played with him yet. Me and Ronaldo ruled at Chelsea!
Just got my ‘Reaction’ stat to 75 which earned me my ‘Passing’ star. I now have 6 stars (dribbling, tactical dribble, passing, outside of boot, shooting from distance, side) Go to clubs that offer you many different positions (I can play CF, SMF WF, CMF) and build ALL stats to 75+ (80/85 ideally) to start to gain the stars as positions and stats, along with what you do on the field, are all factors on which stars you earn!Hope this helps

February 25th, 2010 at 8:58 amTell a lie… the 75 on ‘response’ got me a ‘Positioning’ star and I’m now 7 stars strong. Want to get my ’scoring’ and ‘1on1 scoring’ though but I guess I have to have 85/90 on my stats as I have regularly scored goals but still no stars! Any ideas..?
